5:00 AM – The alarm goes off.
6:45 AM – I depart Midland for Dallas, a one hour flight made even more interesting by the guy who wouldn’t stop talking to me about…something. It was early, and I can’t remember.
2:30 PM – Arrive in Washington DC late, rendezvous with Scott, Kevin, George and John at baggage claim.
2:45 PM – Engage in obligatory “American Idol” discussion, have friendly debate over the man, the myth, the legend, Sanjaya.
5:00 PM – Use Jeff’s nifty GPS unit to guide myself to the venue.
6:30 PM – The Florida guys show up to the venue early. Traffic was supposed to be heavy, and it was, albeit in the other direction.
8:00 PM - Showtime in an interesting theater. There were seats above and behind the stage. Although nobody was seated directly behind the guys, there were quite a few who were about ¾ behind, thus seeing the debut of a new group, Buttapella.
8:10 PM – Disaster strikes. While smoothly dipping his mic stand during a song, George not-so-smoothly lets the mic fall out of the clip and onto the stage. It really wasn’t his fault. However, the top of the mic pops off and rolls to some unseen location. George goes offstage and swaps it for the spare mic. I spend the next twenty minutes with a flashlight, trying to find the top of the mic.
10:00 PM – The top of George’s mic is found after the show, while tearing down the equipment. Fred breathes a sigh of relief, and mops his furrowed brow.
12:00 AM – Set the alarm for 6:00, hit the sack.
