“THE TEXAS TOUR PART III – Houston, TX”
Flight days can be a bit of an adventure. Since we travel with so much stuff, a few of us have to get to the airport earlier than normal just to make sure it all gets into the system. Jeff, Fred, and I had the first flight out at 11:00 AM today. We left the hotel at 8:45 AM, returned the rental car, and hit the airport. Here’s something I had forgotten about; Dallas Love Field (the smaller Dallas airport) has a Chili’s both before and after security. So, we enjoyed a brief breakfast at the post-security Chili’s before heading to the gate.
We were flying Southwest, which doesn’t do assigned seating. When you get on, you grab a seat, and hold onto it for dear life. We get to the gate, and Fred decides to go straight to the boarding area to make sure he gets a good seat. Jeff and I chill to play with our different techno-gadgets. We get on the plane, and actually see a couple of Rockapella fans making the trek to tonight’s show.
We get to the hotel, and the lady at the front desk is trying to read everybody’s name off of the computer. Somehow, Fred became Fred “Shoeman” and Jeff became “Chef Tocker.” I actually got lucky on this one. Fred’s key didn’t work, so he changed rooms, and Jeff’s room smelled like cigarette smoke, so he changed as well.
The Texas hard core fans showed up in Houston as well, sitting on the front row, as always. A great crowd in Houston (by far the biggest of any of this week’s Texas shows), almost filling the 1000-seat theater. Highlights included George’s final foray into the country music world, and an especially-entertaining rendition of “It’s A Small World.”
Sorry for the shorter entry, but it’s a somewhat early day tomorrow.
