Trips to the Germanic part of Europe are becoming quite familiar for us now. As former readers of this website know, it's a series of super-fast train rides, tours of amazing cathedrals, small efficient cars, strange delicious meats, and lots of a cappella fans who've never seen Rockapella kick booty.
Vienna, Austria gig
Our first night was in Vienna, Austria, where we had a show at a local club. England's answer to Rockapella, The Magnets, were headlining the first half of an a cappella festival evening, and we anchored the second half. Great guys and they put on a great show. Like the saucy SwingleSingers from last year, I hope we run into them again. The show went very well, and we debuted a set-ending song, using lyrics in 4 languages, intended for Euro-audiences who don't know Carmen Sandiego. Seemed to work.
Rockapella and The Magnets in Vienna
Vienna is incredible. If you get a chance to see it, go. There is so much history, musical and otherwise. The usual pretty churches, plus a huge palace where the Austrian Empress resided until the days of monarchy ended. Her royal apartments are open for tours. Vienna stakes a claim to Mozart and all sorts of wonderful cultural icons. Though the Empress's common nickname, "Sissy", is highly questionable. No, really - it's "Sissy". Honest.
