Internationally renowned five-man a cappella vocal group Rockapella brings its festive, high-energy “Rockapella Christmas” holiday concert to Door Community Auditorium.
Since the early 1990s, when it first achieved national television fame on Public Broadcasting System’s “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” Rockapella has provided a funky, powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans, touring the globe and keeping their music fresh along the way.
With buckets of catchy original pop songs, as well as complete contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown, pop, and soul classics, this quintet can create the sound of a full band using only the versatility of its voices.
“People have a hard time believing it’s just us making all of that music,” said Scott Leonard, the group’s high tenor. “It’s still those same elements that make modern band music: percussion, bass, melody and harmonies.”
The current Rockapella line-up features Leonard, who’s been part of the group since 1991, Jeff Thacher (vocal percussionist since 1993), Calvin Jones (tenor since 2013), and newcomers Mitchell Rains (tenor), and Bryant Vance (bass).
“Rockapella Christmas” is on stage at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 at Door Community Auditorium, 3926 Wsconsin 42, Fish Creek. Tickets are $28 to $55, with a limited number of $10 tickets available for students.
